Navi Club is a collaborative project by Haruki Funakoshi, Chen Yi-Wen, and Huang Guan-Jie.
While Funakoshi is based in Kyoto, Chen Yi-Wen and Huang Guan-Jie work out of Taichung, Taiwan.
Throughout the project, the three have neither met in person nor engaged in direct discussions; instead, each has created works based on instructions proposed by the others.
The physical distance between Kyoto and Taichung requires 2–5 days for works to be sent by post, while online communication eliminates such physical barriers.
This simple numerical fact might evoke a sense of closeness. However, when considered in physical terms, even if one faces Taichung, no figures are visible, and words fail to reach their destination.
How can we draw closer and imagine people we've never met or places we've never visited, despite this physical distance and ambiguity?
It is said that Kyoto and Taichung share similar landscapes. If this is true, perhaps by reexamining the familiar scenes around us, we can come to understand each other more deeply.
